Sesia Valley (Valsesia) – Strona Valley (Valle Strona)

The greenest valley in Italy

Valsesia, also known as “the greenest valley in Italy”, extends from west to east, between the Aosta Valley, the Ossola Valley and the Biella Prealps. It is dominated by the wide southern side of Monte Rosa and crossed by the wild Sesia river.

Here the Walser arrived from two opposite sides: from Macugnaga through the Turlo pass, creating the first settlements in the places that we know today as hamlets of Alagna, and from the Lys Valley through the Valdobbia pass, settling in the Otro Valley and colonizing the Vogna Valley.

The colonization of Campello Monti, in Strona Valley, was instead the work of the Walser coming from nearby Rimella, in Valsesia.
